Conference Going Up a Gear – Urban Cycling Beyond London Sheffield 9am, 30th March 2011

The last few years have seen substantial investment and some major successes in getting more people cycling in urban areas. London and all six Cycling Demonstration Towns have shown that it is possible to get more people cycling, more safely, and more often. With wider transport funding under pressure, and the new focus provided by the local sustainable transport fund, there is now an is the opportunity for a renewed focus on the massive potential for delivering wider transport and environmental goals through raising cycling levels in urban areas.

TAG Position Statement on the Spending Review

While this is not new news it hasn't previously been published on the TAG website and now the actual cuts are now appearing it is very relevant again.

Highways Management Efficiency Programme DfT

Presumably as part of the government's drive to cut public spending, while minimising losses to service, this programme was announced in October and due  to start in April. I understand it is funded as a £6m DfT programme which will pay for expenses but not time of potential people involved.

There is a wealth of knowledge and experience in TAG authorities on Highways efficiency and it is important that we input into this programme.  DfT are looking for  TAG members who have certain specialisms or skills which map onto the list DfT have provided below.
