Road Building in large cities a lighthearted view

This excellent short film should be compulsory viewing for all politicians and senior people responsible for highways, very useful particularly for the majority who were not around during GLDP Inquiries etc in the 1960s and 1970s

You must watch it to the end though!

Good watching

HMEP launches LEAN toolkit for highway services

LEAN THINKING IS SHAPING OUR ROADS OF THE FUTURE

HMEP launches LEAN toolkit for highway services to deliver greater efficiencies and help to improve the condition and upkeep of England's roads for customers.

A new toolkit to help ‘re-think’ highways planning and management was launched by HMEP in December at the London Technical Advisors Group’s (LoTAG) annual conference. LEAN, a key driver for delivering efficiency savings, is seen by HMEP to be fundamental to improving end-to-end planning and delivery of roads and services to customers.

TAG supports ELGIN roadworks portal

TAG Transport Committee has expressed support for the ELGIN England and Wales roadworks database and urges the remaining English and Welsh highway authorities not yet enrolled to become part of it.

Roadworks.org presents a properly regulated means for Councils to publish roadworks data to a national portal. It remains for Councils to make their own local decisions as to how to discharge the statutory duty to publish  roadworks and proactively coordinate across boundaries.

By participating in this national initiative Councils help to drive forward coordination and public awareness of works. TAG, like ADEPT, fully endorses the participation of all highway authorities in this important national project. Uniquely for something which has been financed by the private sector, roadworks.org is regulated as it were a publicly owned trading operation. (See ELGIN's statement of Public Data Principles - http://www.elgin.org.uk/about-us/Public%20Data%20PrinciplesFINAL.pdf) - and its operations are subject to central Government and Highways sector oversight.
